Katakana, is one of Japan's three scripts, alongside Hiragana and Kanji. Primarily used in Japanese to transcribe foreign words, technical or scientific terms, and some corporate branding, it's distinctively angular compared to the more cursive Hiragana. Modern computing systems universally support Katakana, just as they do other Japanese scripts. Its origins trace back to abbreviated Chinese characters used by Buddhist monks in the 9th century.
