Panjabi, also known as Punjabi, belongs to the Indo-European language family, specifically the Indo-Aryan subgroup. It is one of the official languages of the state of Punjab in India and is also spoken by Punjabi communities in Haryana, Delhi, and West Bengal in India, and in parts of Pakistan. It is primarily written using the Gurmukhi script, and the Shahmukhi script is used in Pakistan. It is estimated that there are more than 110 million speakers worldwide.
