What is AI translation

AI translation is the process of automatically translating text from one natural language to another using the power of artificial intelligence. While similar to traditional machine translation, AI translation is more advanced, as it uses sophisticated technology capable of understanding context, tone, and meaning. This leads to higher accuracy and translations that sound more natural and human-like.

During the translation process, AI takes into account additional information such as a string key description, screenshots showing where the text is used, glossary terms, and other related data. This allows it to deliver translations that are not only more precise but also better suited to the specific use case.

How to use AI Translation

AI Translation is enabled by default in Localizely. It allows you to automatically fill in missing translations for certain languages. All translations generated by AI are marked as unreviewed.

When you register, you receive 2,000 free characters for machine translation to try it out and see how it works. These characters can be used for both Machine Translation and AI Translation. Since AI Translation is a more advanced technology that requires additional resources, it uses six times more characters than regular Machine Translation. Contextual data, such as a string key description and glossary terms, also use six times more characters, and each attached screenshot adds 100 characters to usage.

These characters are not free because the providers we rely on, such as Amazon Translate, Google Translate, and OpenAI, charge for their services. If you need more characters, the project owner can purchase additional ones on the Billing page.

Inline AI Translation

On the Translations page, you can automatically fill in missing translations for any string key using the auto-translate button. Clicking it opens a menu where you can choose how to translate that row. Simply select Translate via AI, and the translations will be generated automatically.

Configuration

By default, only the project owner and project admins can use Machine Translation and AI Translation to automatically generate translations. To allow translators to use these features, enable this option on the Settings page.
