AI Translation

AI translation is the process of automatically translating text from one language to another using artificial intelligence. Unlike traditional machine translation, AI translation is more advanced as it understands context, tone, and meaning, resulting in higher accuracy and translations that sound natural and human-like.

How to Use AI Translation

AI Translation is enabled by default in Localizely and allows you to automatically fill in missing translations.

Localizely integrates with OpenAI to power its AI translation feature.

Note: All AI-generated translations are marked as unreviewed and should be checked before publishing.

To maximize accuracy, AI Translation analyzes all available context for each string key, including its description, screenshots, glossary terms, and other related data, producing translations that are precise and tailored to your specific use case. It also correctly handles complex formats such as plurals, placeholders, HTML, and ICU syntax.

AI Translation consumes six times more characters than standard Machine Translation. Contextual data such as string key description and glossary terms is also counted at six times the character rate, and each attached screenshot adds 100 characters to your usage.

When you register, you receive 2,000 free characters to try out both Machine Translation and AI Translation. If you find you need more, the project owner can easily purchase additional characters on the Billing page.

Batch AI Translation

Batch AI Translation lets you automatically fill in missing translations across multiple languages and string keys in one go.

To run a batch translation, go to the Translations page and click the More button. From the menu, select Auto-translate to open a dialog where you can configure the details.

In the dialog, select your target languages. Optionally, you can narrow down the string keys by applying a tag filter.

Inline AI Translation

Inline AI Translation lets you to translate individual string keys directly from the Translations table.

To use it, click the Auto-translate button next to a string key, select Translate via AI from the menu, and the missing translations will be generated automatically.

Note: Inline AI Translation may take up to 30 seconds, as it analyzes description, screenshots, and glossary terms to produce context-aware translations.

Configuration

By default, only the project owner and admins can use Machine Translation and AI Translation. To allow translators to use these features as well, enable the corresponding option on the Settings page.

Note: When contributors use Machine Translation or AI Translation, the characters are deducted from the project owner's account.

For the best results, make sure to fill in the project description field. A clear description of your project's domain, target audience, tone, and style gives both AI and human translators the context they need to produce accurate, consistent translations.
