Technical information about character encoding standard CP 437
Technical information about character encoding CP 437 is available below.
The CP-437, also known as DOS Latin US, is a character encoding standard developed by IBM. It was primarily designed for the English language, although it includes characters for several other languages and special symbols. Beyond English, CP-437 provides support for characters used in various Western European languages (such as German and Swedish), includes letters from the Greek alphabet, and features line-drawing symbols. It employs an 8-bit encoding scheme, which can represent up to 256 characters. The first 128 characters are identical to those in the ASCII standard.
The table below presents the characters supported by the CP 437 encoding standard, along with their respective codes.
